Have you had your mammogram yet? One-in-eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in women. A mammogram is the most effective method for detecting breast cancer early, when it is most treatable and beatable.
**Women do not need a physician's order for a screening mammogram if you are 40+ years of age, have no breast symptoms and have not had a mammogram in the last year.
Advanced Imaging & Highest-Quality Care

The best line of defense against breast cancer is early detection. Our advanced digital mammogram technology can detect breast cancer up to two years earlier than self-examination. And our imaging specialists have received advanced training and acquired extensive expertise in detecting subtle differences between tissues so we can pinpoint areas of concern. Also, the breast conforming “smart paddle” design of our equipment provides you with a more comfortable overall experience.
At Florida Hospital, we know that regularly scheduled mammograms can save lives. We want to make sure you have the information you need to take charge of your breast health and schedule routine screenings.
What is Mammography?
Mammography is an X-ray examination of the breast. Mammograms make it possible to detect breast cancers, benign tumors and cysts before you can feel them. The latest digital mammography technology takes very detailed electronic images of your breasts, which can be enhanced by computer technology and even transmitted electronically in situations where remote access is required.
When Should I Get a Mammogram?
Many factors determine when you should have a mammogram, such as your family history, risk factors and age. Screening Mammograms are recommended at least every two years, starting between the ages of 40 and 50. Any woman over the age of 25 should have a diagnostic mammogram if any unusual breast symptoms — such as a lump, pain, nipple thickening or discharge —or a change in breast size or shape are detected. Otherwise, consult with your physician to determine when and how often you should have a screening mammogram.
Are There Different Types of Mammograms?
Mammography may be used either for screening or to make a diagnosis. A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to detect breast changes when you have no signs of breast cancer. It usually involves two X-rays of each breast. A diagnostic mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to diagnose unusual breast changes, such as a lump, pain, nipple thickening or discharge, or a change in breast size or shape.
Why You Should Get A Screening Mammogram

At Florida Hospital, we have made the process of getting a mammogram as convenient as possible, with multiple locations across Central Florida, flexible scheduling, and even valet parking at some facilities. Plus, they usually only take about 30 minutes.
